Sourcing Funds for Nature Conservation Projects in the Overseas
Territories
In November 2008 JNCC appointed an Overseas Territories
Fundraising Officer, Nikki Chapman in the JNCC's Overseas
Territories and Crown Dependencies Programme. This is an externally
funded post, with funding being provided by the Department for
International Development (DFID) as part of the Overseas
Territories Environment Programme (OTEP). The post is for a year
and the role will be to explore all funding sources available for
nature conservation work in the UK OT's, ideally negotiating new
streams of funding.
The terms 'funding sources' in this context covers both
financial and non-financial support (e.g. studentships, equipment,
personnel). The funding sources can come from any organisation
across a wide range of sectors (e.g. nature conservation, climate
change, recycling etc). Funding sources are being sought for both
marine and terrestrial projects.

OT Funding Support and Training in 2009
A second component of the role is, where required, to work with
the UKOTs to support the submission of funding applications. This
support will be in any form that is required by the UKOT(s).
It has often been highlighted that the UKOTs have a wealth of
biodiversity, the conservation of which is not adequately
resourced. This post is hopefully one step in the direction of
actively seeking the required resources to help ensure the
conservation of biodiversity in the UKOTs.
In response to the requirements of the role, the OT Fundraisers
Officer is currently investigating which OT’ personnel
require support with funding applications and related works.
Recently the Fundraising officer has been circulating
the OT Funding Support
& Training leaflet which consist of a short
questionnaire regarding support/ training needs. However if have
you not yet had the opportunity to complete the short questionnaire
and feel that you would benefit from such support, please feel free
to forward your responses to
.
How you can help
Are you employed by a Charitable Trust or a University if so,
please help us by completing this brief, user-friendly
questionnaire. It should only take 5 minutes to complete and will
help us to assess current and potential support for future nature
conservation projects in the OT's.
