The Chief Scientists’ Group (CSG) is a Director-level group of the science leaders from the UK Statutory Nature Conservation Bodies – Natural England, Natural Resources Wales (NRW), NatureScot, the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) and JNCC. The group shares best practice, and develops and resources solutions for common terrestrial and marine nature conservation issues, in the United Kingdom and beyond. It exchanges information to avoid duplicating effort and identifies opportunities for collaborative working.
The CSG advises the Joint Committee and is responsible for approving processes and outputs at a UK or Great Britain (GB) level, such as the Guidelines for SSSI Designation (in Great Britain), and Common Standards Monitoring, some of which are formally signed off by the Joint Committee.
