We are announcing today that the 7th Quinquennial Review of Schedules 5 and 8 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act (QQR 7) will start on 8 April 2021. Originally scheduled for 2020, QQR 7 has been delayed until 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Quinquennial Review (QQR) is undertaken every five years by the country nature conservation bodies in Great Britain (Natural England, Natural Resources Wales, and NatureScot), working through JNCC. As a result of a review of the QQR criteria, the data-gathering process for QQR 7 has been greatly simplified. Through the QQR 7 process, you will be able to:
- propose new Endangered species for inclusion on the schedules;
- propose species for removal from the schedules;
- propose a change in protection status of species on the schedules.
Stakeholders wishing to propose changes to the schedules are invited to use the time leading up to April 2021 to liaise with others and prepare the necessary evidence.
