JNCC Chief Executive recognised on ENDS Report Power List 2025

News Item 2025

JNCC is delighted that our Chief Executive Dr Gemma Harper, has been recognised on the ENDS Report Power List 2025.

The ENDS Power List names the 100 UK environmental professionals who have made the greatest impact over the past two years – as nominated by their colleagues, clients and competitors. The list is intended to be a celebration of the vast amount of talent that exists in the environmental profession and as an opportunity to shine a light on the work of those delivering positive change.

With over 30 years leading interdisciplinary evidence teams under her belt, Gemma is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and a Cambridge University Centre for Science and Policy Fellow. She is described as "committed to being a good ancestor through public service", having founded and gone on to co-chair the Civil Service Network for Nature, an organisation that connects civil and public servants to celebrate nature.

JNCC Chair Professor Tom Meagher said: "It is no surprise to me that Gemma has been recognised as 'Leading the Way in the Public Sector' in this year's ENDS Power List.  It has been my pleasure to work with Gemma in several capacities over the years, and the strength of her leadership has consistently shown through.  As the Chief Executive of JNCC, her leadership has been substantive and charismatic, inspiring those with JNCC and creating a strong presence for JNCC's core values at national and international levels.  Well done Gemma!"

On hearing the news Gemma said: "When I was a girl, I fell in love with nature. Having the opportunity to work in nature conservation and recovery at JNCC – an organisation that combines a vital mission for nature, first-class policy-relevant evidence, and excellence in public service – has been a dream come true for me. I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me to get here – this recognition represents a community effort of very talented colleagues. Thank you so much!"
