JNCC staff recognised on ENDS Power List 2023

News Item 2023

JNCC is delighted that two of its team leaders – Jane Hawkridge (International Implementation co-team leader), and Pete Chaniotis (Marine Protected Areas co-team leader) – have been recognised on the ENDS Report Power List 2023.

The ENDS Power List names the 100 UK environmental professionals who have made the greatest impact over the past two years – as nominated by their colleagues, clients and competitors. Ultimately the list is intended to be a celebration of the vast amount of talent that exists in the environmental profession and as an opportunity to shine a light on the work of those delivering positive change.

Jane currently jointly leads the International Implementation Team at JNCC, which works with the UK Overseas Territories, Crown Dependences and internationally to turn science into action, tackling the twin crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. In her time at JNCC, Jane has also coached, mentored and supported over 100 colleagues in taking action for nature, both in the UK and abroad, while simultaneously championing their career progression.

Pete jointly leads the Marine Protected Areas Team. He oversees the provision of advice to support UK MPA network development and assessment, and leads on behalf of the UK contributions into multiple international for a and initiatives to drive global progress. During his 13 years at JNCC, Pete has been extremely influential in helping the UK move towards meaningful 30by30 ambitions for the marine environment.

On hearing the news, Jane and Pete said: "We are truly honoured and humbled to be included on this list. It is recognition of the hugely valuable work that JNCC, the UK’s only statutory nature advisor, undertakes. Science and evidence are at the heart of our work, to drive change and deliver for nature conservation and recovery both in the UK and internationally."
