We are pleased to announce that Dr Chris Tuckett has been appointed to our executive leadership team in the new role of Chief Officer Strategy and Impact. Chris is an environmental biologist with a background in ecology and a PhD on the impacts of air pollution. She has over 25 years’ experience of working in the government and charity sectors, leading on a wide range of environmental issues.
Chris began her career at Defra and then the Medical Research Council working on air quality. She then moved to the Environment Agency (EA) where she spent 17 years, starting in its science and evidence team – there she worked closely with JNCC on environmental data and monitoring.
Chris took on policy roles in the EA, as the executive leader for teams covering topics including water quality, water resources, agriculture and land management.
Chris later moved to the Marine Conservation Society as its Director of Conservation and Policy, leading work on fisheries, aquaculture, marine protection and pollution, before joining JNCC.
Chris said: "It is a privilege to take on this exciting new role in an organisation that I have admired for many years, and at such a key moment. I look forward to utilising all of my experience and energy to help JNCC deliver against the vital ambition set out in Together for Nature."
Chris will lead on the delivery of JNCC’s strategy Together for Nature, optimising impact for people, biodiversity and nature, as well as leading JNCC’s science programmes, with accountability for delivery of strategic priorities, annual business plan targets and key performance indicators.
In addition to driving continuous improvement in business processes within JNCC, Chris will establish and strengthen relationships with Joint Committee, and senior stakeholders across the four countries of the UK, the UK Government, Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies, and internationally.
