Mapping the IPBES Nexus Assessment to the UK Policy Landscape

The 'Mapping the Nexus Assessment to UK Policy' project explores how well UK and Devolved Government policies support actions that simultaneously benefit nature, food and water systems, human health and the climate. These cross‑cutting actions come from the IPBES Nexus Assessment, a global scientific review that highlights practical ways to tackle environmental and social challenges together instead of in isolation.

The Nexus Assessment looks at the interlinkages between biodiversity, water, food, health, and climate change (“nexus elements”) and outlines 71 "response options" – actions that can provide co-benefits across the nexus elements.

The project provides an assessment of how well a subset of the nexus response options are addressed within key UK and Devolved Government policies and strategies. It aims to identify where more joined-up thinking is needed across sectors to support effective and efficient UK policies that deliver a more secure, sustainable, and just future for all.
