In 2022, the Terrestrial Surveillance Development and Analysis (TSDA) partnership developed a new strategy. This sets out a framework of aims and objectives towards which the TSDA partnership are working during the five-year period 2022-2027. It focuses on ways TSDA will address three grand challenges facing the biodiversity sector.
Challenge 1: Adapting to new requirements for evidence
We are aiming to fill critical data gaps by developing and applying analytical approaches, exploring new ecosystem metrics, and improving understanding and communication around the uses and limitations of the UK Terrestrial Evidence Partnership of Partnership (TEPoP) schemes. Where possible, we are also supporting improvements to these schemes and their data.
Challenge 2: Exploiting new data streams.
We are exploring how new technology enables the collection of new data in both current and future surveillance schemes, investigating how recording additional information alongside existing data can enhance analyses, and developing analytical approaches to maximize the value of this new data.
Challenge 3: Developing a volunteer-centred approach to the evolution of TEPoP schemes
We are focusing on understanding the needs, motivations, and behaviour of volunteers to ensure that recommended changes to schemes are effectively implemented, while also engaging with volunteers to support an evidence-based approach to evaluation.
