OCPP Belize. Advancing Marine and Coastal Spatial Data Curation and Management in Belize 2026

Abstract

The Ocean Country Partnership Programme at the request of the Belize Coastal Zone Management Authority & Institute (CZMAI) has funded a programme of work focused on advancing marine and coastal spatial data curation, management and in-country capacity.

OCPP funded MarFishEco to deliver two phases of work. Phase one focused on developing guidelines establishing best practices for creating and maintaining a comprehensive data management system at CZMAI's Coastal and Marine Data Centre, and delivering training focused on data management, analysis and visualisation (with a focus on GIS). Phase two built on the training delivered in Phase one, to ensure the CZMAI team have the advanced skills in GIS and R, to deliver their remit in Belize and supporting colleagues.

The following resources have been produced as part of the programme:

  • OCPP Belize Report: Geospatial Data Curation Guidelines for CZMAI's Coastal and Marine Data Centre (published March 2025).
  • OCPP Belize Report: Advancing Marine and Coastal Spatial Data Curation and Management in Belize (published March 2025).
