Restoring agricultural soil for national security and natural capital 2025

Abstract

Soil, in a healthy state, enables numerous benefits, but the degraded state of the UK’s agricultural soils means we are missing the full potential of these. Increased adoption of more restorative agricultural management practices tend to use less inputs and enhance the natural benefits that soil provides.

This report proposes greater standardisation and collaboration across the public and private sectors to build a better evidence base and accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future management of our soils, thereby improving the overall national security.
