We are promoting adoption and use of the ARD by providing resources for users and by raising awareness of the service through relevant networks.
We have produced a user guide with information on how to access the ARD in CEDA archive via the various methods offered by CEDA. This guide provides further details about Sentinel-1 and -2 ARD, outlines how the data is processed and explains some known issues you may encounter, such as artefacts in radar data due to interference from ground-based radar.
A webinar was held on 30 July 2020 to introduce the Simple ARD Service, showcase applications for ARD in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and explain how to access the data. The presentation slides from the webinar are available on our Resource Hub, and the video of the recorded webinar is available below.
We have set up a curated list on GitHub bringing together examples of code for manipulating and analysing Sentinel-1 and 2 ARD. We also have a Slack workspace for discussion between users of S1 and S2 ARD. If you already have a Slack account, you can join the workspace. If you do not yet have a Slack account, sign up to join the workspace. View a video and slides from a webinar held on 24 September about these resources and how to use them.
As part of the Simple ARD Service we are offering training and facilitation to help public sector users in Scotland and Northern Ireland access ARD via cloud computing. We provide and administer analytical virtual machines on JASMIN, enabling analysis to be carried out without downloading the data.
JNCC hosts monthly meetings of the Defra Earth Observation Centre of Excellence Implementation group and we are active participants in the Scottish Remote Sensing Working Group. We use these networks to raise awareness of the Simple ARD Service and gain valuable feedback from users. We are helping the Northern Ireland Executive to set up a working group for users of Earth observation data; this initiative is funded by the Copernicus Framework Partnership Agreement for Copernicus User Uptake.
