We are promoting adoption and use of the ARD by providing resources for users and by raising awareness of the service through relevant networks.
We will provide a user guide with details of how to access the ARD via the CEDA archive. This guide provides further details about Sentinel-1 and -2 ARD, outlines how the data is processed and explains some known issues you may encounter, such as artefacts in radar data due to interference from ground-based radar. The guide will be available to download from this page soon.
A webinar was held on 30 July 2020 to introduce the Simple ARD Service, showcase applications for ARD in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and explain how to access the data. The presentation slides from the webinar are available on our Resource Hub, and the video of the recorded webinar is available below.
We plan to develop a user guide on accessing ARD from CEDA via application programming interface (API). In the meantime, there is information on the CEDA website on using Elasticsearch to search data holdings and OpenDAP via API to download data.
As part of the Simple ARD Service we are offering training and facilitation to help public sector users in Scotland and Northern Ireland access ARD via cloud computing. We provide and administer analytical virtual machines on JASMIN, enabling analysis to be carried out without downloading the data.
JNCC hosts monthly meetings of the Defra Earth Observation Centre of Excellence Implementation group and we are active participants in the Scottish Remote Sensing Working Group. We use these networks to raise awareness of the Simple ARD Service and gain valuable feedback from users. We are helping the Northern Ireland Executive to set up a working group for users of Earth observation data; this initiative is funded by the Copernicus Framework Partnership Agreement for Copernicus User Uptake.
