CoP26 of the UN Climate Change Conference

26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (CoP26) 

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) entered into force on 21 March 1994. 

CoP26 of the UNFCCC – the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties – took place in Glasgow, UK, from 31 October 2021 to 12 November 2021.

A team of JNCC's experts attended the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (CoP26).  

Our involvement at CoP26 included the following events: 

Oceans of solutions to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises

Description: Includes a presentation by JNCC Chair, Professor Colin Galbraith, on the International Partnership of MPAs, Biodiversity and Climate Change.

Nature based solutions: case studies from across the UK

Description: Representatives from the UK Inter-Agency Climate Change Group (IACCG) showcased examples of projects on nature-based solutions from across the four countries of the UK.

Monitoring landscape change with satellite data to inform climate change adaptation and mitigation measures (Virtual Poster Session)

Description: The poster explores options for making Earth observation data accessible to a wider range of user, in order to monitor effectiveness of adaptation and mitigation measures, including use in specific landscapes such as peatlands.

Natural Capital in the Caribbean British Overseas Territories: Valuation, Vulnerability and Monitoring Change (Virtual Poster Session)

Description: The poster explores mapping adaptations and the use of Earth Observation to monitor the effectiveness of mitigation measures, including damage assessments form disasters such as hurricanes.

Corals and Climate Change; Addressing threats through global, national and local approaches

Description: Whilst coral reefs cover only 0.2% of the seafloor, they support at least 25% of marine species and underpin the safety, coastal protection, well-being, food, and economic security of hundreds of millions of people.  Find out more about what the future may hold for these incredible organisms, and the inspirational work being done to save them.

Ocean Action = Climate Action: UN-Oceans contribution to strengthening national efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change
