JNCC understands that diversity is a fact and inclusion is a choice. We are committed to embracing, respecting and celebrating difference - recognising that it is essential for a thriving culture and success in delivering our vision and mission in ‘Together for Nature’. We recognise that being a Diverse, Equitable and Inclusive (DEI) organisation requires understanding the historical, social and economic drivers of inequality. We have zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment, bullying and prejudice. We are committed to being an anti-racist organisation.
Our leadership sets the tone for creating an inclusive environment where all our people can thrive. Our Values of Inclusion, Collaboration, and Innovation, supported by our DEI and Neurodiversity groups, are driving sustained efforts to evaluate and improve processes to enhance inclusion. This includes:
- Being a Disability Confident Leader (the highest level possible in the Government’s Disability Confident scheme) where we demonstrate our commitment to ensure disabled people are treated fairly and have access to the equitable opportunities of non-disabled people.
- Working towards White Ribbon accreditation. White Ribbon is a global campaign that encourages people, and especially men and boys, individually and collectively to take action and change the behaviour and culture that leads to abuse and violence against women and girls.
- Developing our approach to youth participation to foster a culture where young people are partners bringing in greater diversity of thinking, new ideas and hope.
- Developing our self-awareness, knowledge, skills and cultural intelligence through ongoing training, learning opportunities, provision of resources and support to create a culture of conversation where everyone feels respected and valued.
- Refining the data and evidence to inform decisions, improving our policies and processes to identify and remove systemic barriers and ensuring equity and inclusion is by design throughout all that we deliver.
- Working with partners in the field of terrestrial biodiversity monitoring, through the UK Terrestrial Evidence Partnership of Partnerships (UKTEPoP), to support action and collaboration to break down barriers to inclusion in monitoring schemes for volunteers from across society.
We are pleased to announce that for the second year running we have been awarded a Bronze Standard in the Talent Inclusion and Diversity Evaluation (TIDE) from the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion. This evaluated our DEI approach and practices across eight categories (Your Workforce, Strategy & Plan, Leadership & Accountability, Recruitment & Attraction, Training & Development, Other Employment Practices, Communication & Engagement and Procurement) and we look forward to progressing our TIDE standard to gold.
We are JNCC. We are together for nature.
